GRAY SCALE FOR COLOUR CHANGE
Test for colour fastness - describes the grey scale for determining changes in colour of textiles in colour fastness tests and its use. A precise colorimetric specification of the scale is given as a permanent record against which newly prepared working standards that may have changed can be compared.

SCALE
The essential scale (5 steps) consists of nine pairs of non-glossy grey colour chips (or swatches of grey cloth) which illustrate the perceived colour differences.
Fastness rating of 5, 5-4, 4, 3-4, 3, 2-3, 2, 1-2, 1
Class 5 best | class 1 worst

GREY CHANGE
The loss of color using the grey change scale is evaluated by comparison to five pairs of grey standards. One half of each standard is always of identical chroma to the starting specimen.

I'm another title
The ‘colour change’ scale is used to evaluate colour shade change in colour fastness tests, eg washing, water, perspiration and light (fastness assessment).

IMPORTANCE
-
product performance and evaluation to determine if the fabric is suitable for the intended end use
-
quality control to ensure that the fabric will be made properly and efficiently - claims and returns will be minimized
-
product comparison to determine which material would be better value and prevent so wasteful buying
